General info
South America is the fourth largest continent of the world. Most of South America is located on the southern hemisphere; all of it lies in the western hemisphere. South America counts with many geological extremes. Here, you will find the highest waterfall of the world (Angel Falls in Venezuela), as well as the largest river by volume, the Amazon, the longest mountain range, the Andes, the driest desert (Atacama in Chile), the largest rainforest (Amazon rainforest, largely in Brazil), and the highest lake in the world accomodating commercial shipping routes, Lake Titicaca in Peru and Bolivia. It also has the southernmost town, Puerto Toro in Chile. The southern tip of South America is closest to Antarctica. |
